Shape colours, how they are spread over the pattern, and the background behind it.

Shape colours

Each pattern uses one to six shape colours. The bar above the canvas shows them as round chips; Fine-tune lists them with a weight for each, which sets how often that colour is used. A colour at weight 0 is kept but not used. The pipette next to a colour picks one from the screen, where your browser supports it.

Three colours

Black and white at low opacity works on almost any brand colour, because it reads as a darker and lighter shade of the background. Black and white on brand under More options sets that up in one click.

Pick colours

How the colours are spread. Random gives every shape a random colour. Clustered uses smooth noise, so each colour gathers in soft patches. By position follows a gradient across the artboard.

Cluster size

For Clustered. It is roughly how many shapes wide each patch is: small values make many small patches, large values a few big ones.

By position

The map is a gradient of colour stops. Linear runs across the artboard at the Map angle; Radial runs out from the centre. Each shape takes the colour under its centre.

Background

The fill behind the shapes: a solid colour, a linear or radial gradient with a start and end colour, or transparent. A transparent pattern sits over whatever background your section already has, which suits a site with its own colour or image.

Save the colours you use often. Save background colour adds the current background to the list; click a saved colour to use it as the background. Brand colours are kept in this browser and shared across all your designs.
